Filed Under (Indian Sweets) by Indhu on 16-11-2008

Ingredients

1. rice - 6 tbsp
2. moong dhal - 1 tsp
3. milk - 1/2 cup
4. jaggery - 1/2 cup
5. ghee - 4 tbsp
6. cashew nuts - 10
7. raisins - 10
8. cardamom powder - 1/2 tsp

Recipe

1. Cook the rice and moong dhal for 3 whistles in the pressure cooker. You can either add water to
cook it or you can add a combination of milk + water.
2. Once it is cooked, mash the rice + dhal a little bit and keep aside.
3. Heat a little bit of water in a pan and add the jaggery to it. Keep stirring the jaggery till you
dissolve all lumps.
4. Add the cooked rice + dhal to this jaggery and mix well. Adjust jaggery to suit the level of
sweetness comfortable.
5. Add the cardamom powder and mix well.
6. Roast the cashew nuts and raisins in ghee and add it to the chakkara pongal.

Additionally, you can also add ghee to the chakkara pongal in the pan. Or you can add ghee while serving it. This is definitely not a low-calorie item :)

It is best eaten hot.
